Firefly Island Book Review

Firefly Island

From the back cover:

Mallory Hale’s life quickly veers off course when she falls hopelessly in love. After a whirlwind romance, Mallory finds herself leaving the bustle and action of Capitol Hill for the remote town of Moses Lake, Texas–with husband, stepson, and a U-Haul in tow.

A sweet, mishap-filled journey into marriage, motherhood, and ranch living ensues, and Mallory is filled with both the wonderment of love and the insecurities of change. But what she can’t shake is the unease she feels around her husband’s new boss, Jack West. Jack’s presence–and his mysterious past–set her on edge, and when hints of a scandal emerge, Mallory finds herself seeking answers . . . and comes to realize that the middle-of-nowhere home she wasn’t sure she wanted is the very place she’ll risk everything to save.

My take:

I absolutely LOVED this book! Lisa Wingate is such an exquisite storyteller! Mallory’s character grabs you on page 1 (page 7 actually in the book) and just doesn’t let go! I can relate to the hopelessly falling in love part of the story and living off the beaten path (Although, not to the extent Mallory does in the story.) It makes no difference that I, or most people, can’t relate to the rest of the background in the  story – high powered lifestyle, whirlwind romance and marriage, and spur of the moment moves….Mallory’s story grabs you and sucks you in and you want to know how she got to the scenario on the first page. Like the back cover text hints at – you want to know the answers and you want to know why she’ll risk everything to save it! The excellent storytelling is basically what grips you and sucks you in to this story. Although the plot line is very unique in it’s own right, Lisa’s skill and mastery of the written word is absolutely incredible! Do yourself a favor pick this book up and take a long afternoon off to read Firefly Island! I read this on my flight from Houston to Denver for a conference for work and finished it once I made it to my hotel.
