New York dime novelist May Meriwether decides a heroic Texas Ranger will make a great love interest for her new heroine. Bored to tears and loving adventure, she sets out to the Lone Star State with her constant companion and confidant Chester in tow.

Dreams for a husband and children are relegated to the recesses of her heart, the self-confessed old maid deems it too late. But the near-perfect widower resurrects a smidgen of hope. Only his impenetrable, superstitious religious beliefs stand in the path to her falling head over heels, those and his love for his dead wife. Would there ever be room for her in his heart? And would he give up his fanaticism for God?

An unexpected romance surprises both. Hope is reborn in God’s unfailing love and grace. Can a life built on lies find the Way to confession, forgiveness, and true joy? In a day when the church offers the only stability on the 1850 Texas prairie, these unlikely players find one another and fall in love. But will it be enough?

My take:

In this 3rd book in Caryl’s, “A Texas Romance” series (Christian Romantic Historical Western Adventure), we continue learning more about the Buckmeyer, Baylor, Rusk family.

May is an unexpected breath of fresh air in this family. She’s just as lovable as the rest of the family with her own quirks, opinions, and outlook that the rest of the family just doesn’t have – or expect. Chester is very much the voice of reason and a stoic companion and confidant for May. May and Chester abruptly head to Texas to write about Captain Levi Baylor and Major Wallace Rusk – the fabled Texas Rangers. These two lawmen are just the change May’s stories need. May needs a change and her current stories “…do pay the bills.” “…Ah, but certainly, there’s got to be more to life than money.” “Well said, if you have plenty.”Oh May! What an adventure you are in for my dear!

May has a lot of baggage that she has to come to terms with once she arrives in Texas and falls in love. The Buckmeyer family takes in she and Chester both in so that she can write her novels and interviews. The whirlwind that ensues is very much part of Caryl McAdoo’s amazing storytelling.

Ms. McAdoo once again has gripped me from page one. (I read this book in almost one sitting. I quit reading around 2/3 one morning and resumed later in the day after I got caught up on sleep.) These Texas Romance/Christian Romantic Historical Western Adventures are certainly full of all of the aspects of each genre individually and meshed into a wonderful story that is very unique and unforgettable.

This book was graciously provided to me for free by the author Caryl McAdoo, in exchange for an honest review. (I am a member of her Christian eVALUaters.) All opinions are my own and I was not required to give a positive review.
