Playing the Part by Jen Turano

Hi Again!

I know you are surprised to see me again so soon! 🙂 I just finished reading this great book as part of the Celebrate Lit Book Tour. I’ve read another book in this series (A Class of Their Own) After a Fashion! I didn’t realize until I was almost through with the book that I missed the middle book in the series. Oops! Don’t worry though you don’t have to read them in order, although the books read fine as a stand alone. You’ll probably want to go back and find out what the other characters were up too! I know I want to read the other book now. 🙂 Playing the Part is Book Three in the A Class of Their Own series by Jen Turano.

My take:

Lucetta was not my favorite of the three heroines, but her story was too good! I really liked the plot that had Lucetta running away from the stage and into Bram’s arms. He is Abigail’s grandson and appears to be very much an eccentric gentleman. I really didn’t figure him out until the story unfolded! (My husband would have had it figured out as soon as his character was introduced. He’s that way about movies and tv shows and other plot lines. It’s a little aggravating…LOL.) The story surrounding Lucetta and Bram was very intriguing to me and is the type of story that I favor. It was very refreshing to “hear” the banter between Bram and Lucetta and the rest of the “cast”.

It was sad to see more of Abigail’s background, but the possible glimpse into her future I’m definitely game for! I’m sad to see this series end, but the characters Mrs.Turano creates are very unique, endearing, and bring you back to their story like you’ve never even left. I enjoy the flow of the stories, the glimpses into the characters lives, and the glimpses into history and other occupations. These are some of the reasons why I love to read. It’s nice to see them in good stories! It means that it doesn’t look like I would depart from reading with all of the great aspects to stories and interests of mine all combined into a single novel.

The eclectic members of Bram’s household and home are very cute. You definitely want to keep reading to see what they are going to get into next. Perhaps Mrs. Turano can create a spin off with some of the household? That would be amazing to see how they fared after all the changes that have unfolded over the course of this story.

Mrs.Turano is a great author and this is the second book that I’ve read of hers. Even though I’m not into this time period exactly or the fashion of the time, I’m very interested in her other works. She is a refreshing and funny author that I can’t wait to add to my “TBR” pile again in the future!

This is book 2 in the series. I’ve managed to skip it, it looks like. :0 After-a-Fashion-final-cover-final

Book 1 in the series, not a normal read for me, but it was fabulous! I loved the characters so much!

About the Book

Lucetta Plum is an actress on the rise in New York City, but is forced to abandon her starring role when a fan’s interest turns threatening. Lucinda’s widowed friend, Abigail Hart, is delighted at the opportunity to meddle in Lucetta’s life and promptly whisks her away to her grandson’s estate to hide out.

Bram Haverstein may appear to simply be a somewhat eccentric gentleman of means, but a mysterious career and a secret fascination with a certain actress mean there’s much more to him than society knows.

Lucetta, who has no interest in Abigail’s matchmaking machinations, has the best intentions of remaining cordial but coolly distant to Bram. But when she can’t ignore the strange and mysterious things going on in his house, it’ll take more than good intentions to keep her from trying to discover who Bram is behind the part he plays.
