From the back cover:
Growing up, goody-two-shoes Kirra Jacobs and troublemaker Reef McKenna were always at odds. Now paired together on Yancey’s search-and-rescue canine unit, they begin to put aside old arguments as they come to see each other in a different light.
Then a call comes in from the Iditarod that will push them to their limits. Kirra’s uncle, a musher in the race, has disappeared. Kirra and Reef quickly track the man, but what they discover is harrowing. Frank’s daughter has been kidnapped. In order to save her, the man must use his knowledge as a mechanical engineer to do the kidnapper’s bidding or she will die.
Kirra and Reef, along with the entire McKenna family, are thrown into a race to stop a shadowy villain who is not only threatening a girl’s life, but appears willing to unleash one of the largest disasters Alaska has ever seen.
As far as I know this is the first book of Dani Pettrey’s that I’ve read before. I have participated in her book banters, social media sites, and have been reading her blog for awhile now…I just never got around to reading any of her work. I saw the ad for how to be a part of this blog tour and signed up. About the same time, Bethany House Publishers offered the book for review. I requested it and didn’t think I was receiving it until the book showed up last week. I had a couple of books ahead of this one that showed up out of the blue. I quickly finished two of them and started devouring Sabotaged.
I’m a little late joining the McKenna family antics and don’t know and understand the family as intimately as long time readers of the Alaskan Courage series are. However, I was transported swiftly to Alaska and embroiled in the Iditarod and the McKenna/Jacobs family crisis from an early page in the novel. It was wonderful! I haven’t read many books set in Alaska, nor did I have much “experience” with the Iditarod other than a movie or documentary on tv. I FELL IN LOVE WITH ALASKA (and the Iditarod) during this novel. (I was told by a friend who lived and worked in Alaska how it can “get under your skin”, but I wasn’t expected to feel that way from reading a book – boy was I wrong! I want to travel to Alaska and understand this area, it’s animals, environment, and people – more.
Kirra and Reef seem to be quite the opposite, as far as personalities go. I really enjoy stories depicting opposites because my husband and I are quite the opposite from one another. The story could have been great on its own with just the story revolving around Kirra and Reef and the immediate issue of Uncle Frank, but the addition of the McKenna family to the story really makes it feel like an amazing adventure, a full length film series in a way in just a couple hundred pages. I now know why Dani Pettrey is so raved about in the Fiction community. I could easily see this as a movie – an awesome one. Dani is such a high caliber writer and the book – from the front cover to the back is very HIGH CALIBER. I’m hooked on the McKenna family and have to read the series in it’s entirety now…not to mention every other book Mrs. Pettrey has written. I have been a fan of her personality and social media outlets for awhile now, but now am captivated by her fiction works as well.
*I was provided a hard copy of Sabotaged for review purposes by Bethany House Publishers Blogger Review Program and participated in the Sabotaged Book & Giveaway Tour thanks to PulsePoint Design and the author Dani Pettrey. I was not required to provide a positive review. All opinions are my own.
